Biologically-inspired materials
The creation of novel structures and functional systems at the nanometer length scale is a rich area research with wide applicability, but many challenges exist in synthesizing well-defined systems at such small sizes. In contrast, naturally-occurring biological systems have already been highly successful in this endeavor. The research in our laboratory focuses on designing functional materials using nature-inspired approaches. These biomaterials have enabled us to examine new strategies in various health-related applications, including cancer, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine.
